Both men are well qualified and have a combined 33+ years of lobbying experience. Following is a list of the assigned duties they have with the SD Library Association:

Monitor (IRS definition Self-Defense Communications) issues dealing with literacy, pornography, censorship, Internet filtering software, freedom of access to information, security, technology networking, and the South Dakota State Library
Advise the SDLA Lobbyist Contact (Library Issues Committee Member) on identified monitoring issues
Participate in meetings of the SDLA Library Issues Committee as requested by Lobbyist Contact
Submit legislative activity reports to the Lobbyist Contact during the Legislative session. When the Legislature is not in regular session, the reports will be monthly or on an as-needed basis. An annual report will be submitted to the Library Issues chair at the close of the legislative session for inclusion in SDLA’s Annual Report to the Membership.
Attend SDLA events as requested by the Lobbyist Contact. The events may include activities such as SDLA's Executive Board meetings, legislative day activities, and the annual conference business meeting
Make regular contact with South Dakota Legislators and their staffs on behalf of SDLA for the purpose of communicating SDLA's position on legislative issues of importance to SDLA
Arrange and coordinate with the Lobbyist Contact for South Dakota Library Association officers and board members to testify at legislative hearings, make personal contact with appropriate legislators and their staffs or communicate through letters, email or telephone the positions of SDLA
(Direct) Lobbying will be for the purpose of monitoring library issues as identified in the contract (Self Defense Communications); Grassroots Advocacy will include advising and participation for the SDLA Legislative Reception agenda, monthly session reports, and the development of membership communication policy and procedures for library issues; Membership Education will include development of the 2004 SDLA Legislative Platform and Advocacy Training
