Top 10 Tips For Navigating A Virtual Conference

  1. Update your technology--check your Zoom app on your computer or device for updates. And there's a trial  run on Tuesday, September 29 from 5:00-7:00 pm MT (6:00-8:00 pm CT). Check your attendee  email for the login.
  2. Take a break! Take advantage of not needing to hike across the conference center to find the next session. Login to the next session, turn off your camera and step away from your device. Use the restroom, grab a snack, do some stretches. You get the idea!
  3. Feel free to turn off your camera--it saves bandwidth AND allows you to listen to the speaker without worrying about what's happening around you.
  4. Participate! Take advantage of the session chat, interactive resources and Fliphunt. A virtual conference is definitely what you make it!
  5. Eat! Snacks were mentioned before but definitely plan your lunch and eat while you are attending a session. It's different than attending a face-to-face event and unless you are the presenter you can eat and listen at the same time.
  6. Keep track! If you want to request college credit OR continuing education hours, keep track of the sessions you attend. The form needs to be submitted by November 1, 2020.
  7. Be social! Take advantage of social sessions--following the opening keynote on Wednesday and during lunch on Thursday there are opportunities to chat with each other.
  8. It's NOT TOO LATE to invite your colleagues and friends to register and attend. Since it's virtual, they can come back and watch sessions for the rest of the month.
  9. Social media!! Tweet, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and more! Share what you are learning with others. #SDLA2020
  10. Have FUN! Relax and enjoy spending time with your colleagues. Celebrate award winners, recognize milestones and visit. This is our conference!
